The Incarnate Jesus Day 10
The Parting Glass by The High Kings
Luke 22:14-16 “When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, ‘I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.’”
This song always reminds me on a very visceral level of the Last Supper. Within the Last Supper narrative we have the beautiful picture, one we celebrate in the Eucharist every Sunday, of the joy and pain set before every believer when we are joined with Christ through his sacrifice on the Cross. In a very real way, the commitment to living incarnationally is the commitment to say to world as Jesus said to us “This is my body and blood, poured out for you.” Paul echoes these words in his own words to Timothy– “I am already being poured out like a drink offering…” (2 Timothy 4:6). Let us follow Jesus’ and Paul’s example and pour out ourselves for the life of the world.
