Eastertide
A poem for ending a fast
For four years I wrote a poem everyday To keep the dark thoughts and the demons away But it became a tools of the demons itself So for Lent I decided to put it on the shelf Just for a bit On special occasionas I brought it out When I needed another way to talk about The things that were weighing on my mind Or a thing that needed rules to hone and find The truth of it But now that I'm done with the fast Now that I can write poems again last I find the words are slow to break free And I'm not gonna lie, it's shaken me In my soul But that's what lenten fasts are meant for To push you into Christ more and more And force you to reckon with dark place We'd be in if he hadn't made heavenly grace His earthly goal
